Upgrade guide

Post by TEG » Fri Dec 15, 2006 7:29 am

Hi all!

I am very keen to test the exiciting new Frozen Throne version. Thanks for the efford to all you developers have put their time into this. Much appreciated. :D

I have now downloaded the new version and been through the file list. I have also looked through the installation guide. I am however still unsure about the consequence of just copying all the new downloaded files to my server, because I think that any customisation that I have made over a period of time will disapear completely.

Just a simple example: There is a new user.ini file included in the new version. Copying this to my existing installation will make all my usual admins disapear.

Yes - I know i can make a copy of the old installation and copy/paste part of the old user.ini to make up for this, but isn't there an easyer way?

Looking at the date of some of the files in my download, it would also appear that a large proportion of the files have not been updated, since the show dates going back to 2004. I take it that these files do not need to be replaced?

I have looked around checking for a list of files that would be essential for the new update. This would enable me to limit the number of files I would be replacing. Is this a worth while option?

Hoping for a bit of assistance with this.

To upgrade to 3.0, you need to delete all of the files from previous versions, it has changed that much and will only change more. 3.0 comes with AmxX 1.76b, which is needed, and that basicaly needs to replace all files. You can keep copies of the files so you know what settings to change.

Thank you for your reply.

I was hoping for a "quick fix" but I understand that this is not to be.

All the best.

TEG - let me elaborate

All new war3ft files should be replaced - not necessarily all amxx files...

If you are upgrading amxx - you should follow the guide on amxmodx.org
If you are upgrading war3ft - you should replace the files with those in the separate (non-amxx include) server download file
